Shaun Davey is one of Ireland's
leading professional composers. In recent years he has composed
and produced scores for the BBC TV series 'Ballykissangel' [BAFTA
- nominated], won an Ivor Novello award for the music for 'the Hanging
Gale', composed and produced music for feature films 'The Tailor
of Panama', 'Waking Ned', 'Twelfth Night' [Ivor Novello nominated],
and for the Hallmark TV film of 'David Copperfield'.
In UK Theatre he has been composer to many Royal Shakespeare Company
productions [including The Tempest, King Lear, A Winters Tale and
Pericles] and in the USA his music for 'James Joyce's The Dead'
was nominated for a Tony Award. Other theatre credits include 'Fair
Maid of the West', 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'[RSC],
'The Steward of Christendom' [Royal Court] and 'The Well of the
Saints' [Abbey].
As a composer of concert works he began in 1980 with 'The Brendan
Voyage', a fusion of orchestral and Irish traditional styles, with
an uilleann piper as soloist. He continued this genre with 'The
Pilgrim', 'Granuaile', and 'The Relief of Derry Symphony', all of
which are available on Tara Records.
Shaun Davey also enjoys working in the field of film documentary
and as composer of music for special occasions; in 2003 he composed
the music for the Dublin Special Olympics, performed in Croke Park
Stadium before a live audience of 80,000.
