Suite
from 'Waking Ned'; approx 20-30 minutes]
Shaun
Davey composed and arranged the score for the feature film 'Waking
Ned' in 1998. The film, a comic drama, was particularly successful
in the USA and featured the Scottish actor, the late Ian Bannen
and the Irish actor David Kelly. The story revolves around Ned
Devine, holder of a winning lottery ticket; following his demise
during the TV lottery draw the local community attempt to redeem
his winnings. The music features Irish traditional fiddle, uilleann
pipes, guitar, bodhran and other percussion, supported by orchestra;
it includes several songs, amongst them 'Fill to me the Parting
Glass', a new setting of traditional lyrics of farewell often
requested as sheet music on this website. The music is often playful
in tone, sometimes joyful and celebratory, occasionally profound.
Ideal for inclusion in an 'Irish' programme [eg St.Patricks] where
the orchestra wishes to present soloists from an Irish traditional
background.
